Directions and Map to Community Forklift

Our address is 4671 Tanglewood Drive, Edmonston MD 20781. We are located inside the Beltway in the Hyattsville area, just a few minutes outside NE DC.

Driving directions to Community Forklift from the WEST (central D.C.):

  1. Head east on:
    • Irving/Michigan Ave.; about 1 mile past Catholic University, make a right turn onto South Dakota Ave. heading south; take a left when you get to Monroe St, which will lead you to Rhode Island Avenue (you make a slight left).
      or
    • Rhode Island Avenue
  2. After crossing over Eastern Avenue into Maryland, go through the small traffic circle in Mt. Rainier, and keep going on Rhode Island Ave. for approximately 1.25 miles.
  3. Take a right turn onto Charles Armentrout Drive (If you get to the Hyattsville Courthouse complex, you have missed the turn).
  4. You will go under a small railroad underpass, and travel about three blocks.
  5. Take your first right, onto Baltimore Avenue / Alternate Route One, cross over a small bridge and IMMEDIATELY get into the left turn lane.
  6. Make your first left across the divided highway onto Tanglewood Drive (If you get to a crossroads with a big concrete cross memorial, you have missed the turn.

  7. Tanglewood Drive is a curvy road, so bear left as it curves - DON'T turn to the right onto 46th street.
  8. After you cross over the railroad tracks, Community Forklift is the second building on the right. The front of our building is off-white brick and there is a large Community Forklift sign on the second floor.
  9. Park on the street in front of our building, watching out for the fire hydrant and the city's parking signs! If it is a busy day, you may need to follow the signs to our overflow parking lot.
  10. To enter, walk to the right side of the building, through the big gate into the courtyard, and up the steps into the front entrance.
  11. PLEASE DO NOT PULL INTO THE LOADING COURTYARD unless you are loading something you have ALREADY PAID FOR. Thanks for your cooperation! If you have a donation to drop off, please walk in and tell us what kind of materials you have. We will direct you to the proper loading bay, as we do not usually accept donations at the customer entrance.

Driving directions from the SOUTHWEST (Downtown DC or Arlington, Co., VA):

  1. Take New York Avenue (or I-395 north until it dead-ends into New York Avenue) heading east.
  2. Take a left on Bladensburg Road.
  3. After 2.5 miles, you'll pass the Port Towns Shopping Center, Burger King, and Taco Bell. Then, you'll cross the Anacostia River and come to a crossroads with a large concrete cross-shaped memorial. At the crossroads, you should bear left on Baltimore Avenue / Alternative Route 1.(If you find yourself on Annapolis Road, going under the railroad overpass, then you have missed the turn).
  4. Take your 2nd right onto Tanglewood Drive (If you go over a small bridge and pass a gas station, you have missed the turn).

  5. Tanglewood Drive is a curvy road, so bear left as it curves - DON'T turn to the right onto 46th street.
  6. After you cross over the railroad tracks, Community Forklift is the second building on the right. The front of our building is off-white brick and there is a large Community Forklift sign on the second floor.

Driving directions from the SOUTH (SE DC or Capitol Heights, MD, or Eastern Fairfax, County Virginia):

  1. From Washington (or the Beltway after crossing East across the Wilson Bridge) take Hwy. I-295 North to the Kenilworth Avenue/201 exit (the exit is near the exit for route 50).
  2. Continue North on Kenilworth Avenue about 3 miles.
  3. Pass the Go Kart Track (on your left) and take the next left onto Buchanan Street across from the Three Brothers shopping center.
  4. Buchanan will curve to the left, changing names to Tanglewood Drive, and we are #4671, on your left. If you cross the railroad tracks, you have gone too far.

Driving directions from the NORTH (Montgomery or Northern PG Co. or Western Fairfax County, Virginia):

  1. From the Washington Beltway exit South at Exit 23 - Kenilworth Ave., also known as Hwy. 201.
  2. Cross East-West Highway (Hwy. 410) and continue on Kenilworth for another 1.2 miles to Buchanan Street.
  3. Turn right onto Buchanan Street (If you pass a Go-Kart track you have gone too far).
  4. Go 3 blocks on Buchanan, and it will make a sharp curve to the left. At that point, the road's name changes to Tanglewood Drive, and we are the first warehouse on your left (If you cross the railroad tracks, you have gone too far).
  5. The front of our building is off-white brick and there is a large Community Forklift sign on the second floor. Park on the street in front of our building, watching out for the fire hydrant and the city's parking signs! If it is a busy day, you may need to follow the signs to our overflow parking lot.
  6. To enter, walk to the right side of the building, through the big gate into the courtyard, and up the steps into the front entrance.

Driving Directions from the EAST (Eastern Prince George's County or Annapolis, MD):

  1. From the Beltway head west on either
    • Hwy. 450 (Annapolis Road), or
    • Hwy. 50 (John Hanson Hwy.), & exit to Hwy. 202 west (Landover Road) and continue onto Hwy 450, or
    • Hwy. 202 (Landover Road) which merges with Hwy. 450
  2. Continue on Hwy 450 (Annapolis Rd)
  3. You will pass under a railroad overpass, and arrive at a crossroads intersection (with a big concrete cross memorial in the middle).
  4. At the crossroads, bear right onto Baltimore Avenue / Alternate Route 1 (If you find yourself on Bladensburg Road, passing a Taco Bell and Burger King, then you went the wrong way at the crossroads).
  5. Take your 2nd right onto Tanglewood Drive (If you go over a small bridge and pass a gas station, you have gone too far and missed it).

  6. Tanglewood Drive is a curvy road, so make sure to bear left as it curves - DON'T turn to the right onto 46th street.

Directions to Community Forklift via PUBLIC TRANSIT

PLEASE NOTE: It is an 0.4 mile walk from the nearest bus stop to Community Forklift

Let's answer this question first: "What if I find something cool, but it's too big to take home on the bus?"

No problem! You can buy it, then we will store it for up to one week so you can rent a vehicle or find someone to fetch it for you. Keep in mind: Zipcar has pickup trucks available for members.

R11/R12 Bus from College Park (Green Line) or Deanwood (Orange Line):

This route will involve a 0.4 mile (7-minute) walk from the bus-stop to Community Forklift.
  1. Take the Metro Green line to the College Park Station, or the Orange line to the Deanwood Station, then, in either case, catch the R11/R12 Metro bus. From College Park, the ride is about 10 minutes. From Deanwood the bus ride takes about 12 minutes.
  2. Get off the bus at the intersection of Kenilworth Ave. & Buchanan Street.
  3. Walk three blocks and then Buchanan will make a sharp curve to the left. At that point, the road's name changes to Tanglewood Drive, and we are the first warehouse on your left (If you cross the railroad tracks, you have gone too far).
    To enter, walk to the right side of the building, through the big gate into the courtyard, and up the steps into the front entrance.

F8 Bus from Cheverly Station (Orange Line):

This route will involve a 0.4 mile (8-minute) walk from the bus-stop to Community Forklift. Please note that only the northbound bus stops at this bus-stop.
  1. Take the Metro orange line to the Cheverly Station, then catch the F8 Metro bus. The bus ride will take about 20 minutes.
  2. Get off the bus at the intersection of Baltimore Ave. & #4319 (just north of Peace Cross).
  3. Walk one block north and turn right on Tanglewood Drive
  4. From there, walk down Tanglewood Drive (Note: it is a curvy road, so make sure to bear left as it curves - DON'T turn to the right onto 46th street).
  5. After you cross over the railroad tracks, Community Forklift is the second building on the right. The front of our building is off-white brick and there is a large Community Forklift sign on the second floor.

84 Bus from Rhode Island Ave (Red Line):

This route will involve a 0.6 mile (12-minute) walk from the bus-stop to Community Forklift.
  1. Take the Metro Red line to the Rhode Island Avenue Station, and then catch an 84 Metro bus. The bus will run up Rhode Island Ave., down 38th Street, and then follow Bladensburg Road to Annapolis Road. The bus ride will take about 20 minutes.
  2. Get off the bus at the Peace Cross/Bladensburg Waterfront Park stop (Annapolis Rd & 46th St)
  3. Cross Annapolis Road and walk north on 46th Street until it ends at a T.
  4. Turn right and walk along Tanglewood Drive.
  5. After you cross over the railroad tracks, Community Forklift is the second building on the right. The front of our building is off-white brick and there is a large Community Forklift sign on the second floor.

Directions to Community Forklift via BICYCLE

Let's answer this question first: "What if I find something cool, but it's too big to take home on my bike?"

No problem! You can buy it, then we will store it for up to one week so you can rent a vehicle or find someone to fetch it for you. Keep in mind: Zipcar has pickup trucks available for members.

  1. The entrance to our street, Tanglewood Drive, is very close to where the Northeast Branch and Northwest Branch bicycle trails split, near the intersection of Charles Armentrout Way and Alternate Route 1. (See http://bikewashington.org/trails/branches/ne-branch-s.htm).)
  2. No matter which trail you're riding on, leave the official bike trail at Charles Armentrout Way and head east for several hundred feet on the wide sidewalk until it intersects with Alternate Route 1 (a divided highway).
  3. Turn right onto Alternate Route 1 and ease your way into the left lane because Tanglewood will be your FIRST LEFT TURN.
  4. After you cross over the railroad tracks, Community Forklift is the second building on the right. The front of our building is off-white brick, featuring a large Community Forklift sign on the second floor.
  5. You will see a bike rack on the right side of the building. Lock your bike, then walk through the big gate into the courtyard, and up the steps into the front entrance.
