Retail Sales Supervisor

Community Forklift is seeking a Retail Sales Supervisor to work full-time with a growing green business. The position is responsible for the direct supervision of sales staff during shifts. This is not an entry-level position.
Qualities of the perfect candidate
- Prior retail management experience required
- Proven success supervising staff and providing leadership
- Ability to create and maintain a cooperative team-based work environment
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Outgoing, energetic personality
- Self-starter and creative problem solver
- Experience exercising sound judgment and common sense
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Detail oriented and ability to multi-task
- Ability to assist all customers or donors in a courteous, friendly manner
- Knowledge and enthusiasm for reuse, sustainability, environmental advocacy and green business
- Able to perform physical labor in all seasons (our warehouse is NOT temperature controlled)
- Strong English speaking and writing skills (Strong Spanish speaking and writing skills a plus!)
About the Position
- 30-40 hours a week, weekends required
- Provide direct sales assistance to customers
- Train and support sales staff
- Provide decision-making authority for sales issues during designated shift, including pricing, staffing, customer service and policy implementation
- Assist in development and implementation of policies and procedures for improved cash flow operations
- Provide effective organization and improvement of all check out and sales-related policies and procedures
- Responsible for accurately counting cash drawers and recording these transactions
- Ensure accurate recordkeeping for consignment sales, customer discounts, and employee purchases as well as other sales- related financial procedures
- Work cooperatively and collaboratively with staff to fulfill the mission and support team activities

About Community Forklift
Community Forklift is a nonprofit reuse center for home improvement and architectural salvage. The store accepts donations of new, gently-used and vintage building materials; these donated renovation supplies are then made available to the public at low prices and donated to local nonprofits. Community Forklift is located outside Northeast DC, near the Hyattsville Arts District.

Pricing Associate Needed for Green Business

Community Forklift is seeking a Pricing Associate to work full-time with our growing green business. This newly created position will be responsible for developing a vast knowledge base and understanding thoroughly the intricacies of researching and pricing donated salvage and surplus. Prior related retail experience a plus!
Qualities of the perfect candidate
- Working knowledge of building materials or architectural salvage; prior work experience in a hardware store preferred but not required
- Familiarity and enthusiasm for recycling, reuse, sustainability, environmental advocacy and green business
- Expressed commitment to the Community Forklift mission
- Ability to do computer research with a high attention to detail
- Exercises sound judgment and common sense
- Works well in a cooperative team-based environment
- Excellent organizational and customer service skills
- Ability to fully follow through on work assignments in a timely manner
- Capacity to perform physical labor and moderate lifting (up to 40 lbs.) in a non-climate controlled environment including the ability to work in all seasons and in difficult weather conditions
- Ability to gracefully juggle multiple responsibilities and maintain focus
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong English speaking and writing skills
About the Position
- 30–40 hours a week
- Research and price surplus and salvage building materials accurately and efficiently
- Organize priced building materials and products to facilitate easy distribution to the sales floor
- Provide information to customers about the established pricing system and the rationale for pricing decisions
- Help keep the processing areas organized, tidy and clean
- Monitor and maintain inventory of pricing supplies
- Provide immediate pricing research of specific products as requested
- Work cooperatively and collaboratively with staff to fulfill the mission and support team activities
