Receiving and Processing Coordinator Needed for Green Business

Community Forklift is seeking a Receiving and Processing Coordinator (RPC) to work full-time with our growing green business. This person will oversee receiving and processing of donated building materials at our warehouse. The RPC will provide primary supervision to the full-time and part-time staff to ensure an effective, well-trained and collaborative work environment. The focus of this team is receiving donated materials, interacting with donors, identifying donations, cleaning and repairing donations and managing the organization of materials in the warehouses.

Qualities of the perfect candidate

  • Working knowledge of building materials
  • Interest and/or experience with vintage, antique, or unusual commercial or residential materials
  • Prior receiving or warehouse management experience
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal and communication skills, particularly the ability to work with a diverse constituency of customers and staff
  • Evidence of successful experience supervising staff and evidence of good supervisory skills including a friendly and easy-going demeanor with an emphasis on responsibility, follow-through and leadership by example
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Google Apps, internet)
  • Highly energetic, self-starting, entrepreneurial and creative in developing ideas, opportunities and solutions to difficult situations
  • Excellent customer service skills including a high degree of patience and friendliness as well as a commitment to customer satisfaction
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities gracefully and maintain focus in a constantly changing environment
  • Commitment to the mission of Community Forklift including an interest in reuse and environmental advocacy
  • Evidence of strong organizational skills
  • Commitment to creating and maintaining a cooperative team-based work environment
  • Flexibility and a sense of humor

About the Position 

  • Full time -- up to 40 hours a week
  • Coordinate receiving and processing team to receive, unload and process donated materials accurately and efficiently
  • Supervise and assist with cleaning, organizing and repairing donated materials
  • Lead team to provide superior customer service to donors and customers
  • Organize building materials and products to facilitate easy distribution to the sales floor
  • Work positively and productively to support the Pricing and Sales Teams
  • Ensure that the processing areas are well organized, tidy and clean
  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with all staff to fulfill the mission and support team activities

Weekend Reuse Associate Needed for Green Business

Community Forklift recruits Reuse Associates, on an ongoing basis, to work with our growing green business. Reuse Associates are retails sales positions within our home improvement thrift store. Candidates from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Bilingual English/Spanish required.

Qualities of the perfect candidate

  • Outgoing, friendly personality and natural ability to make others feel comfortable
  • Ability to work most weekends
  • Working knowledge of building materials or architectural salvage; prior work experience in a hardware store preferred but not required
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong English speaking and writing skills; bilingual Spanish required
  • Excellent organizational and customer service skills; prior retail store experience a plus
  • Capacity to perform physical labor and moderate lifting (up to 20 lbs.) in a non-climate controlled environment including the ability to work in all seasons and in difficult weather conditions
  • Ability to fully follow through on work assignments in a timely manner, with attention to detail
  • Works well in a cooperative team-based environment
  • Familiarity and enthusiasm for recycling, reuse, sustainability, environmental advocacy and green business
  • Expressed commitment to the Community Forklift mission

About the Position

  • REQUIRED: Weekend Availability; and other hours possible
  • Create a welcoming atmosphere for customers, volunteers and donors; greet people entering the store
  • Provide excellent customer service to donors and warehouse customers as well as answer questions about Community Forklift’s mission, events, policies and other recycling and reuse options
  • Facilitate customer sales by writing up tickets and operating cash registers
  • Clean and organize donated building materials and store displays; assist labeling and stocking materials
  • Gather information from donors and customers as requested
  • Recognize acceptable and unacceptable materials and provide information to people about those items
  • Assist moving product from the processing areas to appropriate area of the sales floor
  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with staff to fulfill the mission and support team activities
