In case you didn't know—Community Forklift accepts Visa, Mastercard, Discover Card, debit cards, checks and good old-fashioned cash.

Did you know that Community Forklift has successfully completed Co-op America's screening process for socially and environmentally responsible green businesses? We are now in their National Green Pages™ directory!

Sustainable Business Internship

Curious about environmental issues, historic preservation, outreach, or marketing? Excited about the promise of a green economy?

Then check out our unusual internship!

Community Forklift is part of a young and growing industry, so it's an exciting time to get your foot in the door! You will help our staff with outreach and publicity - representing us at festivals and events, networking with other green businesses, conducting internet outreach, helping with media relations, and expanding our list of customers and donors. This is an unpaid internship, but a travel stipend is available. You also earn store credit, which you can spend, convert to a gift certificate, or donate to your favorite charity.

Career changers, undergrads, and graduate students are welcome to apply. You must have strong writing, research, and organization skills. Summer interns must be able to commit a minimum of 24 hours a week. Fall and Spring interns must commit to a minimum of 16 hours a week. Because you will be attending community events, you do need to be available some Saturdays.

You will also help with a variety of other tasks around the store, to get an overall picture of the building material reuse process. According to your interests and our needs, this may include designing brochures, writing press releases and website content, deciding how to organize and display products, researching prices, or assisting customers and donors. Ideally, you will spend approximately:

  • 50% of your time on your marketing and outreach duties.
  • 30% of your time working on other tasks - organizing displays, assisting with incoming donations, etc.
  • 20% of your time working on your professional development - reading and learning about the industry, listening and observing Community Forklift staff, attending networking events, and evaluating your progress with your supervisor.

Applications accepted year-round. Please call or send resume and cover letter to:
